Fiona's Luck

I happen to choose this book randomly and enjoyed it more than I expected to. The title of the book was interesting and the illustrations were beautiful. It is about where luck really comes from. Also it is an ironic story. The land of Ireland was filled with luck with the help of the leprechauns and of course the king of the leprechauns was afraid the luck will run out by they way everyone was using it, so he took it away. When Fiona and the king come face to face, you'll learn that true luck comes from within and not by some spell or magic.
It's definitely a fantasy about the luck of the Irish but on the other hand it can teach a child, even an adult, that luck is what you make of it and that luck comes from within you and not what is around you. It is a fun story and you can do activities to interact with children with the story, the characters and just on plain luck.

Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day

One of my professors read this book to us in class and I fell in love with the book. It is by Jamie Lee Curtis. Honestly, I did not know that Jamie Lee Curtis was an author for children's books. I bought the book and read it again, and actually shared it with other child life major students. It is a great book to have as a resource to use when a child for example is hospitalized and is scared and don't know anyone. You can read this book to the child and let them know that it is okay to feel what you feel and make it like an ice breaker between you and the child.
The illustrations are brillant and fun. The words are poetic and children will enjoy. I would love to find more books like this that I can use as resources to help children deal with trauma or just to make them smile.
